He showed me all sorts of pictures of the inside of my knee from the surgery which was pretty cool.
So..
I'm healing faster than expected. I'll be in physical therapy for the next 3-4 weeks. I can resume MILD elliptical trainer exercises in 1-2 weeks. I can FULLY resume the gym (weights, full blown cardio, etc) in 4 weeks. I can resume any contact type sports within 8 weeks. However, my knee has been permanently weakened.. not a LOT... just a little... So if I go back to contact (or any sports), the DR said I should always wear a knee brace so I don't injure it again.

I’m sitting alone where the rain comes. And suddenly I start wondering where it will go. Well…not really.
I’m sitting o’ here in O’Denver (DIA) trying to get to o’there in O’Hare (ORD) and then O’Wilkes Barre/Scranton PA. (OK that pun’s old). In United’s mediocre Red Carpet Club. The furnishings are fine, it’s the services. Like no free wifi (except DIA’s, which clearly is over-subscribed. Oh and you pay for most bevies. There are, however, Lays potato chips.
After an all-too-brief night of snuggling
Not today though. I was, like “This trip is totally last minute and OMG my US passport was expired. But I totally have my Canadian one. Is that, like, OK? I’m sooo not trying to be sneaky.”
“As long as you got a passport.” ScanTypeStampShoveBackGrunt. Works for me.
I got through security wicked fast too, completely forgetting to take out my baggies of wee liquids. Not a sausage. I plopped down au Salon Feuille d’Erable (a proper airline lounge, with free wifi and Ethernet) for a bit then waddled onboard. A nice service with omelettes, though there were no foot rests in F-class and my leprechaun legs were dangling off the seat. Can you say back ache Batman?
I arrived here at DIA early, but got off the plane late because of tarmac traffic. Only to find my flight to Chicago is delayed 3 hours. That would still leave 30 minutes to make my connection to PA, but it’s O’Hare. I’m not stooped.
United has this very nifty service though. March up to a counter and pick up the courtesy phone. Agent comes on, you explain your story, they sort it, and the boarding pass prints right in front of you. So I got protected on a flight only an hour later. Since I had 3.5 to kill in ORD, n’importe.
But this lounge sucks (hard). I think I’ll have a wander through the terminal. I’ve never lost my ability to get a chubby at a kewl airport. And DIA is kewl. The crowd’s still pretty white-bread though.
16h39 CDT
Well, the flight got out of DIA fine…only to be bounced back by O’Hare due to “strong” winds of 20mph closing 1 runway. Luckily our clever pilot loaded extra fuel; otherwise I think I’d be in Des Moines or somewhere similar. We landed about 30 minutes late, leaving 2 hours to kill here.
I broke down and bought a.) McDo; and b.) Boingo Wi-fi for 24 hours. I might still be here….thank Gawd for carryon.

FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!
I mean it FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Equality does not put republicans in office .. people who vote ( and shady election practices) put republicans in office.
Perhaps rather than blaming a step in the right direction you should instead put pressure on people you know who vote republican and stop spending your $$$ in a manner that lines their pockets.
My fight for equality is not to blame.

"Untraceable"

posted by:

So I saw Untraceable, largely because I love thrillers, and, well, because they called it in the advertising "the Silence of the Lambs of the internet age".
I think the commentary was there, and it got it across, that in this age, we've become YouTubed, it's now the way that we consume our media in a much more personal way, and it's gone beyond our usual concepts of taste in broadcasting. An example is how the Nicholas Berg video wasn't shown on media here, and in reality no-one really needed to see it, but somehow it flourished on peer-to-peer networks, and millions were downloading and watching, whether they were loving watching it, were watching it to be titilated by it, horrified by it, disgusted by it or just wanted to keep up with what everyone else was watching or talking about. I think that it did its bit of showing that - in the chat transcript that was going on highlighted this well. And the fact that Americans were depicted as tuning in with ever increasing numbers the more that it was publicised.
I guess that's modern society - when stuff happens, we now go from the news to YouTube or other sources to find the original video and watch it. Some of it is really useful - people have an ability to watch the full speeches of the candidates for the Presidential Election, for example, and get access to them in far more than a soundbyte news culture. But the same tools can be used for the darker side of things as well - hence the videos of Saddam Hussein's execution making it onto the Internet.
Not that I'm suggesting that the Internet needs to be censored - just that there are both good and bad things to everything, and it's a new frontier that I don't think we have grappled with the ramifications of yet.
I did like Diane Lane, and there were elements that I liked, although I think it was more that I wanted to like this movie more than I actually did. Even with suspending obvious liberties with IP technologies, I found some of the elements of the movie to be pretty silly - like them just standing there and watching someone being murdered and not doing a thing - you think they'd be actively trying to do something to trace, brainstorm where it might be coming from. Instead they just stand there and watch. And they're the friggin' FBI.
It's a intriguing premise, combined with some pretty gruesome concepts, and a dose of moralism. It's not a Lambs and Diane Lane isn't Jodie Foster. The commentary was the main reason I feel for the film, and it made a point, even with a really sappy ending.
I want to give it high marks, but it's probably only going to get marginally above mediocre.
It has got me thinking about the "YouTube media" now, though.

The past few days have been busy and frustrating. They've been busy because I've been trying to learn something about CakePHP and servers. I also have a client that needs a working mockup. However, I really would like to see the mockup actually developed on Cake. It would make so much sense and, I could learn even more firsthand.
My wireless internet is so freaking slow it's pitiful. I spent easily 3 hours downloading today. Man, that's frustrating after having used Paul's 6 mb pipe for so long.
I'll try to get the images on my camera uploaded tomorrow.

Feeling Better

So, after I hung out with Duke and Bruin, and was still feeling kinda low from The Bridge and massaging my dad, I was going to go to the gym with them, but instead I had
Frank-baby (ednixon) come pick me up and we hung out a bit. First, we picked
Big John in San Francisco up from the gayest intersection on Earth and dropped him off at UGH. Then he and I went and scrubbed the tree sap off the car before we ended up at the Eagle, where they were watching Top Chef and X-Men 3.
Hanging out with Frank and company lifted my spirits, and I was able to go back home and sleep peacefully.
Today I went and got a massage and a soak, then had lunch in the Castro, browsed Cliff’s Variety, and came home to escape the scorching temperatures. But doh! My oscillating fan is at my office, useless. I suppose I should just buy another one for here at home, or a window fan to exhaust the warm air into the light well.
Tomorrow it’s back to work!

I misunderstood the manner in which the gub'mint was going to tax my tuition benefits to fund their war on terroristismists and other assorted brownish people with oil, and got a bill from the bursar for more money than I can possibly come up with before Friday, when it's due. Student Financial Services cut me a deal where I can pay it this fall with no late fees, but there's no way I can come up with that money plus another $1300 to pay taxes on my fall tuition before November -- not with us moving this fall and having to travel to Arizona for my sister's wedding in August.
My summer class (History of Sexuality) will be more useful to my final "capstone" project than my fall one (Social and Political Movements of the 1960s was going to be, so I'm going to have to drop the fall semester unless I somehow find alternate funding to pay the taxes. Hopefully with advance planning I can budget for an extra $2000 to pay tuition taxes in 2009. I'd just like to know what I am supposed to be getting from the government for my 36.91% tax on this.
At least California was a bright spot in the afternoon, even if PA won't get there until sometime in the 29th century.
(Incidentally, I find it extremely amusing that "gubmint" was getting underlined in red by spell-check, but apparently "gub'mint" was just fine.)
